Cars By Dealers Magazine was started in 1978 by Linden Julius of York, Pennsylvania. The first Issue consisted of 24 black & white pages and was distributed only in the city of York, PA. It was the first FREE publication of its type in the country.
Back then, our photographers used Polaroid cameras and the pages of the magazine were painstakingly laid out using old cut and paste methods of publishing. The Polaroid pictures had to be re-photographed with a special camera and then retouched using old style techniques.
In 1995 CBD changed over to an all digital format, using state of the art digital cameras and utilizing high end desktop publishing systems and imaging techniques. Our magazine has come a long way since the 24 page small town issue. We now have over 200 color and black & white pages in our PA-based publicaion, thousands of loyal readers spanning from New York through Virginia and we have recently started a new magazine in North Carolina and surrounding areas.
In 2001 we jumped on board the information superhighway by putting our magazine on the World Wide Web. Our web site has helped hundreds of thousands of carbuyers find their dream cars and has put our readers more in touch with the dealers in their area... many of which they may not have considered before. We continue to expand our magazine and web presence to make researching and buying a car a fun experience for everyone!
In 1998, Cars By Dealers entered the race arena with our own sprint car #12! Our car and our driver, Gregg Hodnett have graced the cover of sprint car magazines time and time again, most recently in Sprint Car & Midget Magazine (July 2002) and the April 2003 issue of FlatOut Magazine. See the latest on our Sprint car and other sprint car news on the front page of this site!
